FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING BEGINNING JUNE 12, 2023

Southeast Management Services will be conducting Fire hydrant flushing beginning Monday June 12th, 2023, throughout the city of Alma on all hydrants until complete. During hydrant flushing, the water may become rusty or cloudy and customers should allow faucets to run until the water is clear before using. This will become a yearly maintenance procedure throughout the City of Alma.

Flushing can be an important maintenance technique to remove stagnant water, restore disinfectant residual, remove loose deposits, and scour pipe surfaces. Flushing can reduce water age.

Flushing our system helps to clean out any buildup of mineral deposits and sediment inside the pipes. These harmless deposits can occur when there is a reduced water demand. We also flush our hydrants to make sure they are operational and to check fire flows in our system.
